Living Accessories!?!?

Why do people treat their animals like accessories? Put them in silly outfits, dye their hair, give them hair extensions...Don't you think it is a little creepy? The animals can't possibly enjoy it...

What do you think?

Living Accessories!?!?

I haven't figured out yet why people love to dress up their pets, but it does seem to go with having small breed dogs... and sometimes docile cats.

I doubt the animal thinks it's great, but probably they put up with it because they see it pleases their owner whom they wish to please.

Living Accessories!?!?

HHHAAAHHAHA yes i see ppl in my neighborhood who do that to their animals!! now im concidering buyin my dog some sunglasses for when he rides in the back of the truck so his eyes dont dry out when hes "facing the wind"

but yeah how embarrasing for an animal owned by rich ppl and famous ppl when they dress/make them up

Living Accessories!?!?

The animals DO NOT enjoy it. I think its only for the peopleto enjoy it. I think its mean.

Living Accessories!?!?

I'm against that whole fad as well most of the time if you notice the dogs are so weak from not being able to use their muscles. and most of them are always asleep . its like a dog version of veal.

Living Accessories!?!?

some pets do like it, or just dont really care.... i wouldnt like it i know that much, i think its just plain wrong

Living Accessories!?!?

i don't know either what kind of problem these people have.

Living Accessories!?!?

Dying their hair or putting on extensions is a little overboard, not to mention possibly irritating and harmful, but as far as less-extreme things like dressing them up and pampering your pet is just a sign of love for them. I love my dog and I put a sweater on him in the winter bc it keeps him from shivering. He will actually encourage me to put it on him by nudging my hands! I wouldn't ever force my pet to do something he doesn't want to do or makes him uncomfortable, however.

Living Accessories!?!?

How do we know that cats are superior to dogs?

You will never see eight cats in a harness pulling a sled through the snow.

Some people treat their pets as children. It's a short leap from thinking of a dog as a baby to dressing it up.

John Steinbeck, in "Travels with Charley" observed that a dog who is raised with dogs thinks of himself as a dog. A dog who is raised with people thinks of himself as people.

My addendum is that your cat thinks of you as a large cat, regardless. If you use cat logic, everybody will get along quite well. This involves a lot of ritual, and believing, for instance, that if your head is under the sofa and you can't see anyone, you are invisible.

Maybe dog logic holds that if you get dressed like people, you will someday own a house and have a retirement account.

Living Accessories!?!?

Depending on the breed a lot of dogs should have sweaters and even booties in the winter depending on climate....to each there own as long as there is no harm to animals.

Living Accessories!?!?

I agree. Its stupid to dress them up.

unless its cold and theyre short haired, then give them a comfy jacket....

but other wise its plain stupid

Living Accessories!?!?

I have a chihuahua who actually enjoysgetting dressed up then going for walks to show it off. He will step right into the little shirts but he hates booties so we don't have him wear them. If he didn't enjoy it we wouldn't do it he tells us when he doesn't like it by turning away and trying to walk away from it. Then when he does it we don't put it on him. I think little sweaters are ok but as for dying thier hair and extensions, that is going a little overboard. Although I know you can dye dogs hair with no sid e affects with sugarless koolaid, it washes out with thier next bath.

Living Accessories!?!?

Oh I know its soo sad. One time I saw a lady at petco who had her rat with her and omgosh! Her rat had two piercings on its ear!!!! It was the saddest thing ever!

Living Accessories!?!?

I hate that. I think it is really emberassing for the animals. Why would they treat an animal like that. Animals should not be treated like a human being in that way!!!

Living Accessories!?!?

i wouldn't really have too much of a problem with it----if it didn't cause such a problem for the dogs.

most of the people who do this don't treat their dogs like dogs. they don't take them for walks, they don't socialize or train them, and they generally create aggressive little monsters.

but using sweaters to keep the dogs warm or something along those lines never hurt anyone.

Living Accessories!?!?

I thought it was just me who found this craze annoying.

It's one thing to put a coat or jersey on a cold dog in winter, totally another to dress it up like a baby doll.

Living Accessories!?!?

I dress my dog in clothes, very fashionable ones. She gets bows in her hair, her nails painted. There is nothing wrong with it.

I work in the veterinary field and I see a lot of sick dogs, maybe I over compensate and spoil my dog a lot. But I love and adore her.

She is a joy in my life. She comes to work with me. She goes shopping with me, to lunch with me...and she enjoys it. She goes to her clothes basket and picks what she wants to wear that day, she gives me her paws to paint the nails. She enjoys being pampered as much I enjoy doing it.

Besides what dog doesn't like aroma therapy massages?

...Yes, my dog gets them at the doggy spa.
