What was the 1960s hair accessory that made the hair bump?

if you want a bump to hold in place...then bobby pins work.

It's not really an accessory unless you're talking about one of those slide in clips like barrettes that sit at the base...the only thing I know of people use that help make bumps is a hair piece...you buy it to match your hair color and fit it underneath a thick section of hair that you're wanting raised...some people have enough hair to backcomb to build the base for the smooth hair to lay over, but most of us don't.

The "hairpiece" that someone mentioned was called a "switch" back then. Back-combing ("teasing") also helped. Back in the dark ages, women used a form called a "rat." (By dark ages, I mean when I was a kid in the '40s.)

In the 60's they teased and then smoothed. Then added accessories.

I'm thinking about the teasing or ratting comb. You'd rat your hair so it made a stiff little "raised" area of hair, and then of course spray it to keep it in place.
