How can I look older?

Hey everyone! Im 21 and in college but everyone says I look 14/15. I am studying to become a teacher (high school or middle school) and although I think I will be great at it, I don't look too um, teachery. Im 5'2, about 105 lbs, petite, light brown hair, medium skin and blue eyes, long layered hair with long bangs. When doing my internship, I usually wear black slacks, a collar shirt and a sweater over it (collar and cuffs sticking out) and boots or heals that are usually concealed under my pants. Does anyone have any advice on how I can look older or more professional without looking too business-like? (i.e hair, wardrobe, accessories) I know I can't avoid looking like a student or blending into the crowd, but I want to look nice, distinguished but not at all feminine (preferably NO skirts). Any ideas?

Let your layers grow out, that will make you look a little more grown up. Also,if you wear alot of eye-makeup,tone it down a little. As for clothes, get some colored pants, like navy which looks really cute with a white sweater. You could also try colors in pants like your prefferable colors. hope i helped :]

have a deep sense of responsibilities and that will gain the respect of many adults.

How can I look older?

I don't know,

I'm at the age where my goal is trying to look "younger!"

grow a wicked 'stach.

How can I look older?

1) A little makeup couldn't hurt. Make it natural but it will give you a more refine, polish look. Go to a professional.

2) Very stylish haircut, one color. Professional. Straighten or curl it.

3) High heels. make you taller.

4) trousers, straight leg. It will make you appear taller.

5) Glasses. Gives you more teacher like look. lol

6) Blouses, bright colors.

7) Wear a watch.

8) fitted jackets. Over a blouse or cami

9) A dress with a jacket couldn't hurt.

10) a nice skirt that flows away from the body with a cute top.

How can I look older?

Let your layers grow out that should probably help a lot.

Be happy haahaha most people want to look young instead of looking their actual age.=)

How can I look older?

look in magazines for makeup tips.

like for spring, with blue eyes, wear a coral eyeshadow or do a gray and/or black smokey eye.

with foundation,if needed, get a light oil free liquid foundation, then over that a powder to keep it fresh looking, followed by blush and then whatever with your eyes.

straighten or curl your hair, get highlights,,

you can get cute business stuff.

like pants from american eagle, button down shirts at hollister, also try wet seal, styles for less, rue 21, charlotte russe, alloy.

shoes- nice flats, heals are age appropriate.

help! has some good tips.

Also, it's not just the clothes. You can come off older by the way you carry yourself. People who give off a confident vibe are taken more seriously than someone who's not.

Definitely makeup, shorter hair, or wear your hair up instead of down, I don't think heels are a must, but they can help. Try to avoid "cute" clothing. I would also say form fitted clothes can help alot too, not skin tight.

Take a look at what older professionals are wearing and come up with a more middle of the road conservative but still sexy look. That way, you won't end up 50 or 15.

How can I look older?

I had the same problem doing my internship. I would suggest:

1) wear your hair parted to the side and up or pulled back

2)don't wear dangly earrings, just small ones

3)don't show alot of cleavage and or skin

4)bracelets are alright, but I would go w/ bangles not charms on chains

5)2 piece suits like the double breasted kind are very conservative and professional looking and make you look older

6)when wearing heels make sure no stilleto heals, more square heels or rounded heels look older and more professional unless you work for Victoria's Secret, LOL

7) wear less flashy makeup, no smokey looking eyes, no metallic colored eyeshadows, etc. try some neutrals w/ reddish/coral lipsticks, pink makes everyone look younger

8)if you wear glasses try a frame that is more teacher prone

9)do you have an attache case, if not, carry one, it makes you look more professional and keeps your stuff organized, a ladies style brief case would do the trick as well

10)nothing wrong w/ skirts, as long as you stick to a below the knee skirt that doesn't ride above your knees when you sit down and even a small slit in the back won't be bad, it will make crossing your legs easier without the binding effect

11)a nice inexpensive set of pearl earrings and 16 inch pearl necklace (not the big gawdy looking ones) can make a very adult impression a whole lot more than costume jewelry

Good luck, I too was afraid I would look young and inexperienced and tried to dress down or older looking so as to not blend in w/ the students. Sometimes it's hard. Just try a few things on at your favorite store and you will eventually find your niche in the internship wardrobe world.

Lucky You! Honey I must say , even your words are "cute as a button", so I'm sure you look like a "little doll"! You are soooo blessed. Whatever you do, Always act like a woman. You know what I mean. Its not being mean, but being serious. Cause if you show them one grain of "coolness", you could lose control. I applaud you for even wanting to become a teacher, that is a very special job, and you sound like a person who will do wonderful in a school setting. I used to be a aide for an Early Childhood class and you sound just like one of the teachers I worked with, She was young, beautiful, and full of energy. She was great with those children. But she too worried alot about what others thought. Sorry, got off the subject.....But look at how the other teachers are dressing, think of it as a uniform..be you at home and a professional at work, I probably would not do the ponytails, (they do tend to make one look younger), but a nice stylish cut is fine. Honey, I'm sure you will be great in whatever you do. I wish you much luck and success in the future.
